Autumn Activities for Kids – 30 Fun Ideas and a Free Printable Autumn Challenge

What can you do with kids in autumn? Go mushroom hunting, fly a kite, jump in puddles, collect conkers, bake something delicious with apples… Autumn offers so many fun activities that there’s really no reason to miss summer!

And since autumn is probably the Acorn Elves’ favourite season of all, they’ve put together The Acorn Elves’ Autumn Challenge for kids. It features 30 fun autumn activities that you can complete and tick off one by one.

What to Do with Kids in Autumn?

Autumn fun doesn’t have to involve complicated preparations or expensive trips. All you need to do is look around! Forests and parks are full of colourful leaves, conkers, acorns and other natural treasures. And when the weather turns chilly and rainy, it’s the perfect excuse for crafting, baking or enjoying a cosy evening at home.

That’s why I’ve filled the autumn challenge with a mix of outdoor adventures, creative activities, exciting discoveries and plenty of cosy, relaxing moments.

Outdoor Autumn Adventures

Pull on your wellies and splash in puddles, head into the forest to look for mushrooms, try to catch a falling leaf before it touches the ground, or get up early to watch the sunrise.

And of course, no autumn would be complete without flying a kite, spotting the first frost, going on a spooky night-time adventure to a cemetery, or jumping into a giant pile of leaves!

Autumn Crafts with Conkers, Acorns and Leaves

Autumn provides all the crafting materials you could ever need – completely free! Collect some conkers and acorns, turn them into little animals, or make your very own Acorn Elf. You can also use colourful leaves to create prints, mosaics or a beautiful autumn wreath.

And while you’re in the forest, why not build a tiny house for the Acorn Elves using twigs, moss, pine cones and whatever else you can find?

And What About Those Rainy Autumn Days?

Some autumn days are simply made for staying indoors. Snuggle up under a blanket with a good book, make some hot chocolate with whipped cream, try a new board game, or have a cosy movie night at home with popcorn.

And if you’ve got plenty of apples, why not bake an apple strudel, an apple pie or a gingerbread cake together? You could even dry some apple slices for a tasty snack. After all, autumn isn’t just something you can see and experience – it’s something you can taste, too!
